Bulgaria and EnduroSat to Build €11 Million Space Center in Sofia

The government of Bulgaria has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bulgarian space technology company EnduroSat for the construction of a new space center valued at approximately €10.7–11 million, according to an official statement by the Council of Ministers.

The space center will be located in Sofia and is expected to significantly expand EnduroSat’s capabilities in satellite development, integration and testing. The project is projected to create around 50 high-skilled jobs, primarily for engineers and specialists in space systems and advanced technologies.

All products developed at the new facility will be export-oriented. The main target markets include the United States, the European Union, Japan and other global high-tech destinations. The initiative is thus positioned not only as an industrial investment, but also as a strategic step toward strengthening Bulgaria’s role in the international space economy.

IDR Comment.
The establishment of a space center in Sofia reflects a broader structural shift within the Danube macro-region toward knowledge-intensive and high value-added industries. Investments in space technologies generate long-term multiplier effects, reinforcing R&D ecosystems, talent retention and export competitiveness. For Central and South-Eastern Europe, such projects also underline the growing need for coordinated innovation policies and regional cooperation in advanced technology sectors.
