Construction Projects and Danube Navigation on the Agenda of Bilateral Meeting between SAIs of Serbia and Hungary
On 30 July 2025, Dr. László Windisch, President of the State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO Hungary), welcomed Mr. Ivica Gavrilović, the recently appointed President and Auditor General of the State Audit Institution of the Republic of Serbia (SAI Serbia), at the SAO headquarters in Budapest.
During this introductory meeting, both leaders discussed current challenges faced by their Supreme Audit Institutions and exchanged experiences in auditing construction projects and the management of navigation on the Danube River.
Among the key topics identified as potential areas for future cooperation were audits of public road infrastructure, including financing, construction, and maintenance of road networks. President Windisch also proposed enhanced knowledge-sharing on the audit of Danube navigation systems, reflecting the growing significance of inland waterway transport and environmental management in the region.
The two audit institutions have an established history of collaboration, particularly in the field of water management. SAI Serbia has actively participated in a coordinated international audit initiated by SAO Hungary on the accessibility and sustainability of water and wastewater management, the findings of which were published in a joint report involving several countries.
Furthermore, SAO Hungary and SAI Serbia continue to engage in various international working groups, including the EUROSAI Project Group on the benefits and methodologies of real-time audits, underlining their commitment to innovation and good governance in public sector auditing.
