Coordinated Control Introduced at Giurgiulești–Galați Border Crossing

Starting August 24, 2025, coordinated control was introduced at the Giurgiulești (Moldova) – Galați (Romania) road border crossing point, Logos Press reports.

The agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania on joint procedures was ratified and entered into force following the promulgation of the corresponding law in Bucharest. Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced the measure during his visit to Moldova and inspection at the Albita crossing point.

Border checks are carried out separately by both states: upon exit from Moldova by Moldovan border police and customs, and upon entry into Romania by Romanian authorities at the Galați-rutier checkpoint. As this is an external border of the EU, the "single stop" principle cannot be applied.

Eight lanes have been designated for the control of passenger cars, minibuses and buses, and four lanes for freight transport.

According to border agencies, since the beginning of the year more than 6 million people have crossed the Moldovan-Romanian border in both directions, including about 800,000 through the Galați checkpoint. In the same period, more than 2 million vehicles were registered, including nearly 300,000 trucks.
