Energy regulators of Moldova and Austria expand cooperation

The National Agency for Energy Regulation of the Republic of Moldova (ANRE) and Energie-Control Austria (E-Control) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize and strengthen bilateral cooperation. The document was signed by Alexei Taran, Director General of ANRE, and Wolfgang Urbantschitsch, Member of the Executive Board of E-Control.

The Memorandum establishes a framework for closer cooperation in energy regulation, focusing on continuous dialogue on electricity and natural gas markets, alignment of national legislation with EU standards and best practices, strengthened market monitoring and supervision, as well as joint trainings, seminars, and exchange of experience, including within EU technical assistance programmes.

According to ANRE, the agreement is signed in the context of Moldova’s ongoing transposition of EU energy acquis. Cooperation with E-Control Austria will support regulatory modernization, market liberalization, and increased transparency and competitiveness of Moldova’s energy sector.

Comment by the Institute of Danube Research :

“Enhanced cooperation between the energy regulators of Moldova and Austria is an important step toward Moldova’s integration into the European energy space. For the Danube region, this means stronger regulatory capacity, greater predictability, and improved conditions for cross-border energy projects and interconnectors.”
