From October 19 to 23, 2026, the Romanian city of Galați will host Galați Business Week 2026, an international business forum dedicated to entrepreneurship, innovation, logistics and cross-border economic cooperation. Some of the events will continue in Chișinău, the capital of the Republic of Moldova.
Under the motto "Five Summits. One Agenda: Business Without Borders", the forum will bring together entrepreneurs, investors, government representatives, universities, chambers of commerce, port operators and international organizations from Romania, Ukraine, Moldova and other European countries.
The programme comprises five interconnected events focusing on healthcare, innovation, economic competitiveness, cluster development, transport logistics and international partnerships.
A central event will be the European Cluster Alliance (ECA) Interregional Cluster Conference, "Clusters as Integrators of Competitiveness", scheduled for October 21 in Galați and October 22 in Chișinău.
Participants will discuss the integration of Danube and Black Sea regional value chains into the European economy, green energy development, industrial decarbonization, digital transformation, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and access to European Union financial instruments.
On October 22, the conference will continue in Chișinău as part of the Second National Cluster Forum of the Republic of Moldova. The programme will include the presentation of ESCA Bronze Label certificates and discussions on artificial intelligence, smart specialization, research partnerships and the integration of Moldovan clusters into European production networks.
Special attention will also be given to Lower Danube logistics. The Logistics Summit Galați, scheduled for October 22–23, will focus on multimodal transport corridors, port infrastructure and the region's investment potential.
Commentary by the Institute of Danube Research
According to experts from the Institute of Danube Research (IDR), Galați Business Week 2026 reflects the growing importance of the Lower Danube as a promising centre for economic integration between Ukraine, Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
This process is particularly significant amid the transformation of transport routes, the need for Ukraine's economic recovery, and the emergence of new cross-border production and logistics chains.
For Ukraine, the most promising areas of practical cooperation include strengthening partnerships between the ports of Galați, Reni and Izmail, improving rail and road connections, developing joint logistics services, and attracting European investment to border regions.
At the same time, the cluster-based approach offers new opportunities for cooperation in agricultural processing, renewable energy, shipbuilding, digital technologies and industrial partnerships.
"The Lower Danube is gradually transforming from a peripheral border area into an important platform for economic interaction between Ukraine, Romania and Moldova. However, the effectiveness of this transformation will depend on the ability of the three countries to move beyond isolated infrastructure and business initiatives towards a coordinated strategy for cross-border regional development. The integration of port logistics, industrial clusters, innovation and joint investment projects can provide the foundation for the Lower Danube's long-term competitiveness," experts from the Institute of Danube Research emphasize.
IDR experts also underline that regional economic cooperation should develop in line with the European integration prospects of Ukraine and Moldova, the opportunities offered by the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), and the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
In this context, the development of coordinated regional investment priorities is particularly important. Such an approach would connect transport infrastructure, industrial production, energy and innovation within a common framework for sustainable economic growth.
The Institute of Danube Research emphasizes that Galați Business Week 2026 could become an important platform for establishing new economic partnerships, strengthening the Lower Danube's position within European transport and production networks, and creating additional opportunities for the post-war recovery of Ukraine's Danube region.
