Message from the Institute of Danube Research on the International Black Sea Day
On 31 October, we celebrate the International Black Sea Day — a date symbolizing the shared responsibility of all Black Sea countries for preserving this unique marine ecosystem.
On this day in 1996, the Black Sea coastal states adopted the Strategic Action Plan for the Protection of the Black Sea against Pollution, launching an enduring international dialogue to safeguard ecological balance, promote sustainable navigation, fisheries, and tourism.
The Institute of Danube Research extends heartfelt greetings to all partners, researchers, and civic initiatives working together to restore aquatic ecosystems, develop the blue economy, and strengthen regional cooperation from the Danube to the Sea.
Our mission is to maintain the balance between nature and development, between economic activity and environmental safety, between national interests and the shared European future of the Black Sea region.
Let this day remind us:
The Black Sea begins with every river that flows into it.
By protecting our rivers — we protect the sea.
With respect,
