Moldova sharply increased gasoline exports to Ukraine

In August 2025, Moldova quadrupled its gasoline supplies to Ukraine — reaching 10.1 thousand tons, reports Logos Press.

This occurred despite the overall reduction of Ukraine’s fuel imports by 25% (down to 164 thousand tons). The decline was linked to the July situation, when importers sharply boosted supplies from alternative sources after the mid-June attack on Ukrtatnafta, in order to stabilize the market.

In August, Lithuania became the leading supplier of fuel to Ukraine, while Poland, traditionally at the top, reduced shipments. Imports from Lithuania, Poland, and Greece decreased, while supplies from Germany (+22%) and Moldova (×4) increased. In addition, a marine shipment of 6.1 thousand tons arrived from Cyprus.

IDR Comment:
The Institute of Danube Research notes that Moldova’s growing fuel exports demonstrate its deeper integration into regional energy and logistics processes. This trend plays a key role in stabilizing Ukraine’s fuel market and highlights Moldova’s increasing importance as a transit and trade hub in the Black Sea–Danube region.
