Ukrainian Cadet Fencing Team Wins Two Team Medals at European Tournament in Slovakia

The three-day European Cadet Circuit épée tournament Coupe du Danube concluded on Sunday, 11 January, in Šamorín, with the Ukrainian cadet national team securing two medals in the team events.
The Ukrainian boys’ quartet claimed silver medals, while the girls’ team earned bronze, according to the press service of the Ukrainian Fencing Federation.
On their way to the final, Arsenii Karapysh, Oleksandr Stabnikov, Maksym Durda and Hryhorii Krasniuk confidently defeated Ukraine 4, Hungary 2 and Germany, before edging Israel 1 by a single touch in a dramatic semifinal (44:43). In the final bout, the Ukrainians were defeated by the eventual champions from Hungary, finishing the tournament with silver.
The Ukrainian girls’ team also delivered a strong and consistent performance. Margarita Angarska, who had previously won individual bronze, added another bronze medal together with Polina Spyrydonova, Yelyzaveta Horbachuk and Sofia Makhlai-Shemiakina. After victories over Spain, Israel and Poland, the Ukrainian team narrowly lost to Italy’s main squad in the semifinals, but convincingly secured third place in the bronze medal match.
Overall, the Ukrainian delegation finished the tournament in Šamorín with five medals: one gold, two silver and two bronze.
