US company Agrico Sales to support the development of Odesa region’s port infrastructure

The Regional Development Agency of Odesa Region has signed a memorandum on partnership, cooperation and coordination with the US engineering company Agrico Sales, Inc.

The parties intend to cooperate on modernising the region’s port, logistics and grain-handling infrastructure, preparing investment projects according to international standards and attracting external financing.

Agrico Sales specialises in the design and construction of dry-bulk handling and storage facilities, grain terminals, conveyor systems and ship-loading equipment. Operating internationally since 1987, the company implements full-cycle projects covering engineering, equipment manufacturing, construction and installation.

The partnership also provides for the international promotion of Odesa region’s investment opportunities, B2B meetings with potential investors and the involvement of US experts in evaluating regional infrastructure projects.

A separate area of cooperation will be the search for funding through international financial institutions, export credit agencies and US government institutions.

The Regional Development Agency believes that the partnership will create additional opportunities to modernise port infrastructure, strengthen the export potential of Odesa region and introduce advanced US technologies into Ukraine’s strategic recovery projects.

At the same time, the memorandum is primarily a framework document. Its practical value will depend on the preparation of a portfolio of technically and financially viable projects capable of passing international evaluation and securing investment.

Cooperation with Agrico Sales is particularly important for the development of the Danube port and logistics cluster in Odesa region. The objective should extend beyond upgrading individual terminals toward creating an integrated system linking the ports of Izmail, Reni and Ust-Dunaisk with railway and road infrastructure, storage facilities, processing enterprises and international transport corridors.

The Danube ports have demonstrated their strategic importance in maintaining Ukrainian exports during the war. Their continued development, however, requires a transition from emergency capacity expansion to comprehensive modernisation. Priorities should include faster vessel handling, modern loading equipment, terminal automation, reduced cargo losses and dust emissions, and the development of container and multimodal transport.

Future investment should not focus exclusively on raw-material exports. The Danube cluster should incorporate facilities for storing, processing and exporting products with higher added value. This would connect port modernisation with industrial development, job creation and higher revenues for the communities of the Ukrainian Danube region.

US engineering expertise can support the transition from isolated infrastructure initiatives to an integrated Danube port and industrial hub. Achieving this objective will require transforming the memorandum into concrete projects with identified funding sources, implementation schedules and measurable economic outcomes.
