Alexandroupolis–Odessa Corridor Planned within TEN-T Network

Ukraine, together with its European partners, has launched discussions on integrating new transport routes into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), with a special focus on the section Alexandroupolis (Greece) – Odessa (Ukraine).
In early September, an inaugural online meeting was held with the participation of representatives from the transport and infrastructure ministries of Ukraine, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, as well as the European Commission. The central topic was the development of the TEN-T corridor “Baltic Sea – Black Sea – Aegean Sea”, emphasizing connections through Alexandroupolis, Varna, Constanța, and Odessa.
Alona Shkrum, First Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, highlighted that the creation of new transport and logistics routes is key to Ukraine’s economic resilience and integration into the European space. She also underlined the importance of alternative routes to reduce vulnerabilities in international logistics during wartime.
Ukrainian representatives stressed the need for full integration of the Danube region’s infrastructure into TEN-T, which would increase the capacity of Danube ports, provide sustainable alternatives to sea and land routes, and connect Ukraine’s and Moldova’s transport systems to the EU network.
The European Commission confirmed the strategic importance of the corridor and expressed readiness to explore funding options.
Since the launch of the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor, ports in Odesa region have shipped over 137 million tons of cargo on more than 5,300 vessels. Of this, 84 million tons were agricultural products delivered to 54 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, helping to stabilize global food prices and reduce hunger risks in import-dependent states.
