Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port to Develop within the Middle Corridor

Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port is set to integrate into the Middle Corridor (TITR), a multimodal transport route connecting China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe.

This was announced by the port’s director, Oksana Kiktenko.

According to her, a key step in the development of the route was the establishment of a unified operator – Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd, created by the railway companies of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia. In early August, China Railway Container Transport Co., Ltd (a subsidiary of China Railway Container Transport) officially joined the consortium, thus strengthening China’s role in the governance of the corridor.

Key shareholder decisions

  • advancing digitalization of operations and eliminating “bottlenecks” in the transport chain;
  • approving the Middle Corridor Roadmap;
  • introducing joint monitoring of container train transit times along the route.

Role of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port

As part of its integration into the Middle Corridor, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port signed a memorandum of cooperation with APM Terminals Poti (a division of Maersk).

“The development of the port includes the construction of a road-rail ferry complex and a modern container terminal,” – emphasized Oksana Kiktenko.

The Institute of Danube Research highlights the strategic importance of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port’s participation in the Middle Corridor:

  • it strengthens Ukraine’s role as a key transit country along the global East–West trade axis;
  • it provides new opportunities for export logistics amid wartime restrictions in the Black Sea;
  • it creates a foundation for attracting international investment into port infrastructure;
  • it facilitates digitalization and integration of Ukrainian transport hubs into global multimodal systems.

“The establishment of a single Middle Corridor operator marks a new level of coordination between China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe. For Ukraine, it is an opportunity to secure its place in the new architecture of Eurasian transport corridors. Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port has the potential to become not just a regional, but an international logistics hub,” – emphasized the Institute.
