Bombing of “Orlivka” Did Not Affect Moldova’s Gas Supply

The Danube Research Institute reports that the Russian drone strike on the “Orlivka” gas compressor station in Ukraine’s Odesa region did not impact Moldova’s gas sector, including the left bank of the Dniester River.

According to Minister of Energy Dorin Zhughiietu, Moldova currently imports natural gas exclusively through the Iași–Ungheni–Chișinău pipeline. The energy sector is operating normally, and Energocom has already purchased about 50% of the gas needed for the 2025–2026 heating season.

The “Orlivka” gas compressor station is part of the Trans-Balkan gas corridor, with a throughput capacity of 55 million cubic meters per day. Previously, it ensured the transit of Russian gas to Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey, but after the cessation of transit through Ukraine on January 1, 2025, it has been used for reverse gas deliveries to Ukraine from Turkey, Greece, and Romania.
