The average daily unloading of grain wagons in the ports of Greater Odesa dropped by 244 units, down to 909 wagons per day last week, according to Valerii Tkachov, a representative of “Ukrzaliznytsia”, as reported by APK-Inform.
The number of wagons heading towards Greater Odesa ports also decreased by 113 units — to 5,495 wagons per day. Meanwhile, the average daily loading across the railway network fell by 523 units — to 857 wagons.
A similar trend is observed in the Danube ports:
- daily unloading decreased by 5 wagons, to 47 units,
- the number of wagons heading towards the ports fell by 74 units, to 46 wagons per day.
Comment by the Institute of Danube Research (IDR):
“The slowdown in grain wagon unloading at both Greater Odesa and Danube ports is a worrying signal for Ukraine’s agricultural exports. The grain sector is crucial for the national economy and foreign currency revenues. Any decline in logistics efficiency in Black Sea and Danube ports directly affects Ukraine’s ability to meet contractual obligations and maintain competitiveness on global markets. Under conditions of geopolitical instability and peak seasonal shipments, these figures highlight the urgent need for investments in expanding port and railway infrastructure capacity,” the IDD emphasized.
