Enda Enerji Holding to Acquire Renewable Energy Portfolio in Romania

Turkish renewable energy company Enda Enerji Holding announced the signing of a binding Memorandum of Understanding for the acquisition of a hybrid renewable energy portfolio in Romania valued at more than EUR 47.3 million. The seller is the Dutch company Defic Globe, whose majority shareholder is Yeo Teknoloji Enerji ve Endustri. The transaction was disclosed through the Public Disclosure Platform of Borsa Istanbul.

The portfolio includes three solar power projects with a total installed capacity of 54 MWp, along with integrated battery energy storage systems (BESS) totaling 80 MWh. Defic Globe SRL, the Romanian subsidiary, will provide full EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) services on a turnkey basis, while BESS projects will be implemented by companies within the Yeo Teknoloji group.

Commentary by the Institute of Danube Research

Experts at the Institute of Danube Research assess this transaction as a significant step in strengthening the hybrid renewable energy model in the Danube–Black Sea region. The integration of solar generation with battery storage enhances grid flexibility, stabilizes intermittent production, and improves overall system resilience. In the context of Southeast Europe’s ongoing energy transition, such investments contribute to balancing mechanisms and cross-border electricity flows.

Romania is increasingly positioning itself as a regional renewable energy hub, attracting foreign capital and accelerating the deployment of storage technologies. For the Lower Danube area, the development of solar-plus-storage assets opens opportunities for technological cooperation, infrastructure modernization, and enhanced integration into the European electricity market, including synchronization and balancing mechanisms within ENTSO-E.

The deal also aligns with Enda Enerji Holding’s strategic objective to reach 500 MW of installed capacity by 2030, reflecting broader regional decarbonization trends and the emergence of a more interconnected and resilient energy architecture across the Danube basin.
