Moldova Railways (CFM) has put into operation a new real-time railway infrastructure monitoring center. The system enables live tracking of rail traffic and provides live video streams from cameras installed in depots, on locomotives of moving trains, and at other railway facilities across the country.
The project also includes the installation of thermal cameras, GPS equipment to monitor train movements, and lighting systems at strategically important points along railway routes. The initiative was implemented with the support of the U.S. Government through the EXBS (Export Control and Related Border Security) program of the U.S. Department of State. The launch ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, Nick Petrovich.
IDR comment
For the wider Danube–Black Sea region, real-time monitoring is not just a security upgrade—it is a practical step toward more predictable logistics. Faster incident detection, clearer operational oversight, and more stable traffic management can improve the reliability of rail corridors that increasingly matter for regional supply chains. The key will be consistent maintenance, clear response protocols, and robust data protection so that the technology translates into measurable operational resilience.
