Prime Minister of Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu announced that the possibility of organizing a trilateral meeting of the prime ministers of Moldova, Ukraine and Romania this spring is currently under consideration.
Potential venues include Chernivtsi in Ukraine and Giurgiulesti in Moldova. According to the Moldovan Prime Minister, the initiative was discussed with Ukrainian counterparts during his visit to Kyiv on February 10. It is expected that several ministers — including those responsible for infrastructure and energy — may also participate in the meeting.
The agenda is currently being drafted, and consultations with the Romanian side are expected to follow. The Prime Minister emphasized that such a summit aligns with his recent diplomatic engagements in Bucharest, Brussels, and Kyiv, and reflects a broader strategy of coordinated regional cooperation.
He underlined that the three countries aim to jointly advance cooperation in energy, infrastructure, border security, and European Union accession processes.
Comment from the Institute of Danube Research
The Institute of Danube Research notes that the proposed trilateral format could serve as an important platform for synchronizing regional policies within the Danube–Black Sea area.
“A Moldova–Ukraine–Romania trilateral summit would strengthen coordination in infrastructure development, energy interconnectivity, and border management. In the context of the European integration trajectory of both Ukraine and Moldova, such institutionalized dialogue acquires strategic relevance,” the Institute’s experts emphasized.
