The Institute of Danube Research highlights the strategic importance of the planned Yampil–Cosăuți Bridge, a key element of the future transport corridor linking Kyiv and Chișinău, and a major step toward stronger regional connectivity.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Moldova, Paun Rogovei, confirmed that both countries are actively seeking financing solutions for the project, previously estimated at UAH 3.4 billion. Despite funding challenges, the project remains on track.
The bridge will span over 1.4 km, feature two traffic lanes and pedestrian walkways, and connect the T-02-02 highway (Ukraine) with M-2 (Moldova). It will replace the long-inactive ferry crossing at Yampil–Cosăuți and help decongest the Mohyliv-Podilskyi–Otaci border checkpoint.
The crossing will also provide the shortest route from central Ukraine to Central and Southeastern Europe, bypassing the occupied Transnistrian region.
IDR (comment):
“The Dniester Bridge is both an infrastructure and symbolic project, reinforcing the partnership between Ukraine and Moldova.
It will enhance cross-border mobility, trade, and regional cohesion — in full alignment with the EU Danube Region Strategy.
The bridge will also strengthen the resilience of the Kyiv–Chișinău corridor as part of Europe’s integrated transport network.”
