Ukraine updates Free Trade Agreement with Montenegro

Ukraine has updated its Free Trade Agreement with Montenegro. The protocol amending the agreement was signed by Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka and the Montenegrin Ambassador to Ukraine.

The document aligns rules of origin with the revised Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention, simplifying trade procedures and reducing administrative burdens for businesses. Its implementation is expected to open new opportunities for increasing Ukrainian exports to the Montenegrin market and further harmonising trade with EU standards.

Comment of Institute of Danube Research
For the Ukrainian Danube region, this update has clear applied value. Simplified rules of origin strengthen the role of Danube ports as a logistics bridge between Ukraine, the Balkans and the EU, enhancing multimodal routes along the Danube–Black Sea–Adriatic axis and supporting export-oriented SMEs. Strategically, such steps deepen Ukraine’s economic integration with Europe even under wartime conditions and lay foundations for post-war regional recovery.
