Vienna’s Danube Island to Host a New International Electronic Music Festival in 2026
In 2026, Vienna’s Danube Island will become the venue for a new large-scale music event. For the first time, on 1 August, the Summer Vienna electronic music festival will take place, featuring four stages and more than 24 international artists.
The confirmed line-up includes ANI, Ben Böhmer, Charlie Sparks, Deborah de Luca, Holy Priest, Hugel, I Hate Models, Kalte Liebe (live), Kobosil, Nicolas Julian, Schrotthagen, among others. The organizers expect around 18,000 visitors, while in the long term the festival is planned to grow into a multi-day event with up to 50,000 attendees, positioning itself as an international flagship of Vienna’s electronic music culture.
The programme will cover a broad range of styles, from techno and hard techno to melodic house and bounce. The event will also mark the first time that the German open-air concert series “Island of Summer” is held outside Germany.
According to Stefan Zumper, representative of the organizer Permanent Entertainment, the Danube Island “offers the perfect backdrop to combine electronic music at an international level with Vienna’s unique atmosphere.”
Comment by the Institute of Danube Research
“The launch of a new international festival on Vienna’s Danube Island demonstrates a strategic approach to using riverfront spaces as cultural and economic assets. Such events not only strengthen the city’s tourism appeal, but also shape a contemporary image of the Danube as a platform for creative industries, youth culture and international exchange. For the Danube Region as a whole, this is an important signal of how environmentally sensitive river landscapes can be successfully combined with high-quality cultural events,” the Institute of Danube Research notes.
